Types Of Fishing

Fishing is one of mankind’s oldest activities, and as such, there are many types of fishing. Over the ages, humans have fished for survival, sport, recreation, and commerce. Here are a few of the many types of fishing.

1. Angling: Also known as line fishing, this is the most common form of recreational fishing and probably the most popular of all the types of fishing.  Angling involves using a rod and reel to catch fish. This type of fishing includes surf fishing, many forms of fresh water fishing, and some forms of deep sea fishing.
2. Long Line: Of the many types of fishing, commercial fisherman most commonly uses long line fishing. Long line fishing involves using many baited hooks on one, or several, long lines trailing behind a boat.
3. Trolling: This type of fishing involves using a boat to drag the line through the water. This is most commonly used in deep-sea fishing for marlin or tuna. Long line fishing is a more advanced form of trolling.
4. Hand Fishing: This is the most primal of all the types of fishing. Hand fishing is simple. try to catch fish with your hands. This is most commonly used for lobsters and other crustaceans, but some people catch large catfish by hand as well.
5. Spear Fishing: This is another very primal sort of fishing. Spear fisherman will dive underwater with a speargun or sling and hunt fish.
6. Bow Fishing: This type of fishing is similar to spear fishing, but the bow fisher hunts from above the surface.
7. Dredging: This is another of the types of fishing commonly used by commercial fisherman. Dredging involves digging up the sea bed. This is normally used for scallops and clams.
8. Ice Fishing: This is a form of angling that takes place over ice. Fisherman drill a hole in the ice and drop their lines into the hole.
9. Fly fishing: This is one of the most specialized types of fishing as it is quite difficult. Fly fishing is similar to angling but the rod is different. Many fly fisherman pride themselves on their ability to cast with accuracy and precision.
