With the rising costs of your bills, it might just be easier to use your iPhone as a modem. Instead of going through the hassle of paying outrageous fees to cable companies, consider using an iPhone as a modem to keep you connected to the world without the need to pay giant sums of money. The following steps for using an iPhone as a modem work best in a public setting with a laptop.

To use iPhone as a modem, you will need the following:

  • An iPhone with an enabled network
  • A cable to connect your computer to the iPhone
  • A laptop
  1. Enable Network Tethering. There are only a few steps in order to use your iPhone as a modem and luckily they are so easy. Go into "Settings" and then click "General." From here, select "Network" and highlight "Internet Tethering." Slide the button from "Off" to "On" and you're already halfway to using your iPhone as a modem!
  2. Connect Your iPhone to Your Computer. Using the cable provided with your iPhone, connect the phone to your laptop. From here, an icon should pop up asking if you're going to accept the connection. Accept to do so, choosing "iPhone" if it asks which connection are you okay with. Launch your internet browser and if you're in an area with a strong signal, you should be ready to go! If it doesn't work, try turning off any antivirus software you may have running since that can sometimes hamper your efforts to use your iPhone as a modem.

Using your iPhone as a modem shouldn't be a crutch but a tool that can help when the costs to use regular Internet get too high. Moreover, if you're in a place where you have no network connection but great cell phone signal, using your iPhone as a modem can be a real lifesaver!
