Use Wrestling Mat Tape Properly

If you are a wrestler and rely on mats to keep you safe, it is important to know how to use wrestling mat tape properly. Wrestling mat tape holds a series of mats together at the seams, preventing them from sliding around during a match. Applying the wrestling mat tape properly takes a group effort, so ask a few members of your wrestling team for help.

In order to use wrestling mat tape properly, you will need:

  • Wrestling teammates
  • Wrestling mats
  • Wrestling tape
  • Scissors
  1. Gather at least three other members of the wrestling team. Unroll the mats that you plan to use and let them flatten down for about a half hour so before you use wrestling mat tape.
  2. Use two guys to push the mats together, making sure the seams line up evenly, before you use wrestling mat tape. Once the mats are connected, it is time to apply the wrestling mat tape.
  3. Apply the wrestling mat tape to the seam after your teammates push the mats together. In order to use wrestling mat tape properly, ask them to hold the mats in place with their feet as you start at one end and cover the seam with the wrestling mat tape; running it down the entire length of the connected seam.
  4. Rip the end of the wrestling mat tape by hand or with a piece of scissors after you apply it to the seam. Have another teammate follow behind you, smoothing the wrestling mat tape after you apply it. Wrestling mat tape properly smoothed has no bubbles, bumps or pockets of air.

Tips:

To butt the wrestling mats up to each other nice and smooth, you may want to try having one teammate stand on one side of the seam while the other teammate stands on the other. Pushing the seams together with their feet will make for a nice, tight fit before using the wrestling mat tape.

Warnings:

Don’t try to apply the wrestling mat tape on your own. It takes more than one person to ensure that the seams are even, apply the wrestling tape and make sure that it is smooth.
