Warrant Officer Requirements

To qualify for United States military employment in grades W-1 to W-5, fulfilling warrant officer requirements is a must. Slightly below the officer rank of O-1, these professionals directly interact with—and command within—the confines of units and on vessels. While it is true that the various types of military outfits have somewhat different warrant officer requirements and also job applications, there are a number of commonalities.

1. Graduate from high school. Incoming candidates must possess a high school diploma. In addition, the program is open to candidates between the ages of eighteen and 32. Citizenship is also a must.
2. Meet entrance requirements. Height and weight requirements are just a couple of hurdles. Other entrance requirements include a score of 110 in the Armed Forces Vocation Aptitude Battery. Do not forget to also come in with a clean medical check-up!
3. Formal education. One of the warrant officer requirements is a formal education. The Warrant Officer Career College at Fort Rucker is one example of a school that offers this type of training. Courses vary for candidates, senior staff and anyone in-between.
4. Focus on leadership. Only military personnel who excel in their leadership skills need apply. The goal of the position is to take hands-on expertise and pass it on to others as a trainer and commander. Warrant officer requirements specify that candidates are committed to the leadership aspect within their fields.
5. Finish basic training. Basic combat training must take place before heading off to warrant officer school. The initial period of coming in as an enlisted person is the proving ground for the future professional. It is a good idea to let recruiters know ahead of time what fields interest you.
6. Branch out into a specialty. Consider choosing flight training as a specialty. After successfully passing basic training, it is possible to enroll in the warrant officer flight training program. Warrant officer requirements for this level specify formalized classroom- and hands-on training.
