Weird Sports

When football and basketball lose their appeal, it might be a good idea to try out some of these weird sports. These weird sports are great fun for you and your friends to try something new or to meet new people. If you find yourself with nothing to do for a weekend, giving some of the following weird sports a try will do wonders for your life.

  1. Chess Boxing. Billed as "the thinking man's contact sport," this is one of the best weird sports in the world because you play a round of chess, then lace up your gloves and trade blows for a few minutes. If you've ever gotten so mad at someone for taking your rook that you want to punch them in the face, this is one of the few weird sports that lets you indulge on that impulse.
  2. Zorb. Along with having one of the oddest names on this list, this is one of the best weird sports because it lets you find out what it's like to feel like a hamster. Awesome! Originating in New Zealand, this sport has participants getting into a giant inflatable ball and rolling down a hill. You might get motion sickness, but at least you'll have fun doing it!
  3. Catfish Grabbing. It is exactly what it sounds like—you go fishing with your hands. All you need to get started is a swimsuit and a good pair of gloves, and you're ready to indulge on one of the manliest weird sports ever! This one requires strong arms, since catfish tend to squirm around a lot.
  4. Wife Carrying. Started in Finland as a bit of a joke, this is one of the weird sports that spiked in popularity over the past few years. Men put their wives on their backs and navigate a series of obstacle courses, probably grunting and yelling like Vikings the entire time. At least, it's of this author's personal opinion that Viking-inspired yells would make anything better, especially this great weird sport.
  5. Unicycle Hockey. Everyone loves field hockey, so imagine the fun of that with the added challenge of maintaining your balance on a unicycle. This is one of the more restrictive weird sports due to the special equipment and terrain you need, but if you get enough people, get ready for some great fun!
