What To Do After College
As a college graduate, you spent four hard years of studying and (probably working) to walk across the stage in your cap and gown and proudly get your degree, but after the celebration is over, you might be thinking of what to do after college. There are a few things you can do once you reached the real world. If you find yourself stumped, check out these choices you have once you finish school.
- Find a job. After many college graduates finish school, they quickly look for a job related to their field. Before you graduated, you should have gained experience during your college years working as an intern, adding it as experience on your resume. Look into different jobs that suit your degree and entry-level positions so you can work your way up to a higher position and earn higher income.
- Pay off student loans. Student loans are frozen when you are in college, but after graduation you will be expect to start paying back those loans after six months. To avoid paying the loans for a long time, continue working at your current job; it helps greatly to take on a second job for extra income. Remember to live within your means and do not assume that you will have your dream job waiting for you once you get out of college. In today's economy, jobs for college graduates are not easy accessible as they were twenty years ago, so it is best to put most of your money towards paying back loans. With enough hard work, your loans should be paid off in three to five years.
- Go back to school. If you already have an associate's or bachelor's degree and want to receive a higher degree such as a master's or Ph.D., you can transit from undergraduate to graduate school. Depending on your major, it takes a few years to finally complete school and still give you more time to find employment when you nearing your last year of school.
- Take a break. College is work and graduation is a reward for a job well done. If you don't want to thrust yourself in the daily grind of work just yet, it is OK to take a few months to a year spending time with family and friends or taking trips across country or other places in the world. A nice vacation can put your mind at ease so don't feel guilty of it because you deserve it!
