For those that are looking to take a trip down to Louisiana's southeastern region, one thing in which to do beforehand is become well-versed in what to do in New Orleans. New Orleans is a bustling cultural and historic destination that is known for its charming French Quarter, many antique shops, historic landmarks and museums. New Orleans offers no shortage of exciting tourist spots and things to do for visitors to the Cajun metropolis.

  1. Haunted History Tours is a New Orleans company that is headquartered on Fontainebleau Drive. Many types of extensive tours of the French Quarter and beyond are available through the Haunted History Tours, including tours of the city's cemeteries and historic gardens (from Marie Laveau's tomb to the Lafayette Cemetery). Some popular tour options that are provided include a voodoo tour, a history and cemetery tour and ghost tour.
  2. No trip to New Orleans is complete without a taste of beignets. Beignets are deep-fried dough pastries that are lightly covered in powdered sugar. The pastries are the state's official doughnut. The word "beignet" originates in France, where it is used to describe many kinds of deep-fried and sweet delicacies.
  3. For people that are highly interested in learning about arts and culture, New Orleans is home to a variety of museums that depict a wide array of subjects, from historic local voodoo and international fine arts to World War II and state history. Some standout museums in New Orleans include the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Louisiana State Museum, the New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum and the Louisiana Children's Museum.
  4. Steamboat Natchez is the city's sole riverboat, and provides scenic daytime and dinner jazz cruises over the Mississippi River. Steamboat Natchez operates year round, seven days a week and offers picturesque views of the city. The cruises have been in operation since 1975. The lunch and dinner meal menus consist of Creole-influenced dishes such as pasta Jambalaya, pecan rice pilaf, blackened pork loin, barbecued baked beans, Southern fried chicken and cole slaw.
