What To Feed A Dog With Diarrhea

Most people are not aware of what to feed a dog with diarrhea. When a canine gets sick and suffers various symptoms such as diarrhea, most people panic. There are simple ways that you can do things to help an animal gain strength when going through a sickness.

  1. Make sure to feed the dog high quality dog food. A sick dog needs the best nutrition that you can provide for him. Most stores have a wide variety of healthy dog foods to choose from. Cheaper quality foods may not provide the extra nutrition that the dog needs while trying to recuperate from his diarrhea.
  2. Give your dog Gatorade or other hydrating drinks. When a dog suffers from diarrhea, he can become very dehydrated. Along with plenty of water, make sure the dog gets at least one bottle of Gatorade daily until he is over his sickness.
  3. Do not feed your dog 'scraps'. Although some people occasionally feed their 'leftovers' from dinner to their pet, it is usually not a good idea. It is never a good idea to do this when the dog is sick. Scraps can further irritate their stomach and make his diarrhea worse or last much longer.

It doesn't have to be a complicated task to take care of a pet with diarrhea. With these simple steps and lots of care, your pet should be well in a couple of days. Also, keep an eye on your pet and make sure others in the neighborhood are not feeding him things that might be detrimental to his well being.
