What To Look For When Buying New Motocross Bikes

You should, of course, know before beginning to determine what to look for when buying new motocross bikes that these are not pedal-style bicycles. Rather, they are a type of motorcycle. However, they are smaller, more lightweight, and configured differently in ways to make them suitable for racing on courses that may go from straight track to inclines (both upward and downward) to very sharp turns.

For this reason, you will look for special features indicative to new motocross bikes that you would not otherwise look for on another type of motorcycle. Some of these features are listed below.

Correct size. As with just about everything else, new motocross bikes come in different body and engine sizes. The engine size can range from as little as 85cc to as much as 450cc; the body size will be larger or smaller depending on the type of engine. The correct size will depend on the rider’s age and physical build. A younger rider may not be able to control a larger bike while older riders would look ridiculous on new motocross bikes built for younger ones.
Durability. New motocross bikes—for that matter, motocross bikes in general, take a lot of pounding and abuse. For these reasons, the frame and chassis should be made of a strong yet lightweight metal that can still absorb impact. Make sure that everything such as handlebars, seats, and other parts are firmly fastened into position, also.
Safety features. The most important safety feature on new motocross bikes is a speed governor. This piece of equipment ensures that the bike cannot go above a certain speed. Look for new motocross bikes that have a speed governor, especially for beginning riders.
Comfort. Sure, the rider is going to get bounced around, but new motocross bikes should still have well-padded seats and sufficient shock absorption to make the ride enjoyable. The proper amount of seat padding may also prevent back injury from hard jolts and landings.
A good price. Just as with any purchase, it pays to shop around. Remember, however, that you don’t want to sacrifice safety and durability for a lower price.
