With all of the different options for purchasing a computer, you might be wondering, what is a netbook? A netbook is a type of laptop. Netbooks are generally lightweight and inexpensive in comparision to other types of laptops. Netbooks also feature fewer options in comparision with other laptops in order to reduce size and weight. If you are trying to decide whether to buy a netbook or a different type of laptop, netbooks are generally used outside of the home environment for Internet surfing, emailing, and word processing.

One advantage that netbooks have over other laptops is that they are extremely portable. Netbooks are available with screens of only twelve inches wide and most netbooks weigh less than three pounds. Netbooks are commonly used in education or workplace settings for for taking notes and/or accessing the Internet. Their small size makes them easy toi transport to class or a coffee shop of an office. Most Netbooks have a built-in wireless component. Netbooks are also relatively inexpensive at approximately 200 to 500 dollars ( a fraction of the price of many other laptops).

While there are many advantages to owning a netbook, the greatest advantage being portability, netbooks do have their drawbacks. For example, netboooks tend to have less storage capacity than other laptops. The storage capacity of many Netbooks is comperable to an mp3 player, so getting a netbook as your main computer is not an ideal situation. Netbooks also do not have a disk drive, which could be problematic if you need to put data files on your computer.
