What Not To Wear To An Interview

People always talk about what you should wear to a job interview, but do you know what not to wear to an interview? Interviews can be very stressful for some people because it is your only time to make a first impression. You want to make the best one possible. Wearing the wrong thing to an interview can leave the interviewer with less than satisfactory thoughts about you. Before you rifle through your closet searching for the right outfit, make sure you don’t pick the wrong one.

  1. Don’t wear blue jeans or T-shirts to an interview. While they may be the more comfortable option, blue jeans and T-shirts are extremely inappropriate for an interview. Even if the job you are interviewing for, allows jeans and extremely casual wear, wait until you are hired to break them out.
  2. Don’t wear gym shoes or shoes that are too casual. Shoes are small items that seldom go unnoticed. Never take the quick and easy route by throwing on any old shoes for an interview, the interviewer will notice everything you have on and arriving in a nice outfit and finishing the look of with gym shoes, casual sandals, or any other very casual shoe may leave him uninterested.
  3. Don’t wear your wireless headpiece. To be honest, it is rude to wear a wireless headset most places, and yet it seems to be a very common trend for people to wear them. Never wear one to an interview, it shows that your top priority for the moment is not the interview, but a possible call. It also shows that you will probably wear it while working as well. You will not look professional, or business like. Besides, that little flashing blue light can be very distracting for the person trying to interview you.
  4. Don’t wear sunglasses. Sunglasses are yet another popular item worn everywhere, when they should only be worn outside. It doesn’t look cool or stylish to wear them indoors, especially during an interview. The interviewer will probably think you are a joke and skim right past you. In addition, it’s very disrespectful. For all he knows, you could be asleep under your shades, and the last thing he needs to worry about us whether or not you are paying attention.
