What to Pack for a Camping Trip
If you know what to pack for a camping trip, it can make the trip go much smoother. Knowing what to pack for a camping trip depends in part on who is going on the camping trip and what activities are going to be done. For that reason, this article will address general ideas of what to pack for a camping trip, while also discussing some specific concerns to be addressed when packing.
- Safety is the first concern when deciding what to pack for a camping trip. For this reason, a first aid kit should be taken on the trip as well as a cell phone. The first aid kit can be a great help in minor emergencies, while the cell phone can help reach emergency resources if needed. First aid kits cam be bought or made at home but should include items such as bandages, pain relievers, itch relief, antiseptics, allergy relief and a bandana of some sort to use as a sling or tourniquet.
- Shelter is something that needs to be considered when deciding what to pack on a camping trip. Be sure to have an appropriate sized tent and enough sleeping bags for all the campers. Some people may be uncomfortable sleeping on the ground and may require an air mattress. Be sure that your tent has a canvas to lay underneath it to prevent moisture from seeping through and soaking the sleeping bags.
- A cooler packed with food should be taken. As far as the cooler goes, knowing what to pack for a camping trip depends entirely on what the campers like. Adequate utensils, plates and a grill or some type of grate to put over a fire should be taken so that the campers are able to cook. Some suggestions of simple foods to take are hot dogs, biscuits, bread and fruit. Avoid taking anything with mayonnaise in it since it has a reputation for spoiling and will make campers sick.
- Take a change of clothes for each day you are camping and be sure to take clothing that will pertain to planned activities. For instance, if you plan to swim, be sure to take a swim suit and towels. Keep in mind that clothing should be changed prior to sleeping to avoid illness. Many people do not realize that they perspire during the day and that sleeping in clothing that is damp can lead to illnesses, such as a cold or fever.
- Be sure to take items that pertain to the activities that are planned. When you plan on what to pack on a camping trip, outdoor activities may be considered. If you plan to go mountain biking, be sure to take a mountain bike. You may also want to take a lantern and some indoor activities, such as cards, for those days that you may get rained out.
