What Questions To Ask On A First Date

What questions to ask on a first date can often times tell you whether this potential relationship has a chance of going any further.  A first date can be compared to an interview for a job.  If you too have nothing in common and different perspectives of life, things might not work out too well.  It's better to hear all the answers up front, so no one's heart get's hurt and no one wastes any unnecessary time. Some people might find it challenging to come up with a set of questions to ask on a first date, and may ask the wrong ones, which could lead to lots of awkwardness. Here is a set of questions you might want to ask on a first date.  Try to remember them because you don't want to be sitting there with a clipboard and pen on hand!

  1. Where do they live? You'll want to ask this to make sure your relationship wouldn't end up as a long distance one. Starting a long distance relationship can be very difficult and may not be worth starting.
  2. You'll want to find out your date's age, but you'll want to do this without straight on asking. Many men and women could find this offensive. However, dating someone much younger or much older could be a cause for some clashing issues. Therefore, a great way to find out is by asking what year they graduated college/high school. If you ask about college, you'll need to go one step further by asking things like, did you take time off after high school? What type of degree did you get (2 year, 4 year and so on). These questions can answer the difficult age question.
  3. What type of job do you have?  Finding out a job can answer many financial questions, without digging.  Finding out someone is unemployed or a volunteer and has no income might be a sore spot if you are in a similar boat.  Starting a relationship with financial problems, will most likely not allow your relationship to develop to far.  On the other hand, finding out that someone works 80 hours a week might not be a great outcome either.
  4. What is their living situation? If your date lives with their parents or even five roommates, it's something to think about when it comes to having some alone time.  If your living situation is ideal, then technically it wouldn't be a problem. However, if you have a situation of having to bunk with a parent or five other roommates as well, it might be hard to start a relationship that way.
  5. What type of relationship are they looking for? Some people just want to date, some people want to meet as many people as possible and some people want to settle down tomorrow and start popping out kids. Depending on what you want, it will need to come close to what they want in order to have a potential future relationship.
