What To Use Instead Of Grip Tape
Wondering what to use instead of grip tape for your skateboard deck? First of all, let's jump into what exactly is grip tape. Grip tape is applied on top of the skateboard deck because its texture is ideal to prevent a person's feet from sliding off the surface. Luckily, there are a few things that could be substituted for grip tape but there is one material that is a very close match. As a matter of fact, grip tape is actually altered at the warehouse to imitate the texture of this very material.
Sandpaper is the best material that comes closest to grip tape. It could be purchased at almost any hardware store. The only difference is that sandpaper does not stick to anything like the grip tape does. Sandpaper can be bought with an adhesive back or you can purchase a two-sided adhesive sheet and lay it over one side of the sandpaper. You could cut the adhesive sheet and sandpaper to the desired size and stick it to your skateboard. Thus, creating the same effect as grip tape.
Be aware that sometimes the adhesive under the sandpaper could wear off. When it wears off, you could buy more and apply new sandpaper as well. That is a good way to keep your skateboard in shape. You could give it a touch-up every now and then as the grip tape begins to lose its texture. Remember, if you have a skateboard long enough, the grip tape will begin to wear off and you'll have to replace it with a substance similar to sandpaper.
