What To Wear With Black Baggy Jeans

Knowing what to wear with black baggy jeans requires a little thought and depends not only on the occasion but also on the degree of bagginess. First, recognize that baggy does not necessarily equate with saggy—that disrespectful “show the world my underwear” look so fashionable with urban youth and inmates. Baggy can mean maybe one or two sizes too large, which is enough to have plenty of breathing room without ending up with your pants around your knees after a few steps or, worse, a stint in jail. Some cities have actually banned sagging jeans!

  1. Contrasting shoes. Unlike tight black jeans, black shoes do not compliment black baggy jeans. It is better to choose contrasting colors. Timberland boots work very well with these pants. Crisp white sneakers can also work. Avoid skinny black dress shoes at all costs when wearing black baggy jeans
  2. Casual tops. Black baggy jeans work better with looser and more informal shirts. Wearing a tight T-shirt with very big jeans results in an MC Hammer parachute pant look. T-shirts should be a little loose, and light colors work well to balance out the contrasting shoes mentioned above. Big sweaters look good, as do slightly loose buttoned shirts.
  3. Accessories. Baseball caps can round out a “gangsta” look, but for a more sophisticated look try a Kangol or one of your dad’s old hats. The large stainless-steel wallet chains are so year 2000 that this accessory should be avoided, unless you actually are concerned about getting pick-pocketed by one of your pals.
