What To Wear To A Christmas Party

Planning what to wear to a Christmas party becomes important as the holiday season is approaching. You want to look stylish and part of the celebration without going overboard. Here are a few ideas for finding balance between holiday attire.

  1. Where the party will be held will give you a general idea of what the style of dress will be. If the party is held at a fancy restaurant, you want to dress accordingly. If the party is being held in someone's home and everyone is bringing a dish to share, you can dress more casually. The location and time of day is important for determining attire.
  2. Christmas colors look good within reason. You don't want to be decked out from head to toe in bright red and green. If you are planning to wear a tie, a Christmas print or a solid red or green tie would be acceptable. It would be too much to wear a red button down shirt with a green tie.
  3. A printed sweater would also be acceptable. If you live in an area with colder weather around the holiday season, a sweater can look great and keep you warm. There are several types of red or green plaid that would look great and not make you stand out too much. You don't want to be the guy in the reindeer sweater with a red nose that lights up.
  4. Christmas T-shirts are acceptable for a casual Christmas party. If a friend is throwing a party, a more casual look would be acceptable. You can wear jeans, tennis shoes and maybe a funny Christmas T-shirt. You want to be aware of who will be attending the party to ensure that the phrases or picture on the T-shirt is in good taste and will not offend anyone.
  5. A Santa hat is a great accessory to a Christmas outfit. Many times people will dress as they would for a regular party and just throw on a Santa hat to be a part of the Christmas spirit. Whatever you decide to wear to a Christmas party, be sure enjoy the time spent with friends, family and co-workers.
