What To Wear For Graduation
You've worked hard for your diploma, now need to know what to wear for graduation? Certain school's may have a set of requirements for the type of clothing that should be worn to the ceremony, but there are general guidelines for what is considered appropriate for this type of event.
- Wear a buttoned-down collared shirt. Choose a white or plain-colored shirt that fits properly. Button the shirt up to your neck and tuck it into your pants. If you wear a long-sleeved shirt, button the cuffs. You can also wear a tastefully-designed tie, but it isn't required. Shirts with bold designs, writing, or bright colors are inappropriate for a graduation ceremony.
- Wear a pair of slacks. Choose a plain pair of slacks that do not sag or cling to your legs. Make sure the pants do not drag on the floor when you walk. Tuck the shirt into your pants and put on a plain belt. Do not wear pants that need to be pulled up constantly. Although you are wearing a robe for the majority of the ceremony, you will eventually have to take it off. You don't want to embarrass yourself or your family at graduation with sloppy attire.
- Wear a pair of dress shoes. Sneakers, flip-flops, and boots are not appropriate. Choose a black or brown pair of dress shoes that match the rest of your outfit. The shoes are the only piece of clothing that is seen while wearing the robe, so make sure they are clean, polished and presentable.
- Don't wear too many accessories. Keep your accessories light. Wear a watch with a small band and clock face so it doesn't stand out from your outfit. You may even be prohibited from wearing flashy jewelry, so leave them behind.
