While planning what to wear for Mardi Gras, there are a few simple rules to follow. Like dressing for any occasion, you will want to blend in with your peers. Mardi Gras is a wild celebration. It is best if you don't show up in a three-piece suit or an evening gown.

  1. Wear bright colors. Mardi Gras is an exciting time filled with spring colors. When deciding what to wear at Mardi Gras remember that the more you stand out, the better. This is not a conservative celebration. Bright colors and patterns will let everyone know that you are definitely there to party.
  2. Wear face masks. Mardi Gras is the only time besides Halloween that masks are endorsed. Masks with feathers and over-exaggerated noses are highly popular for Mardi Gras celebrations. The masks you want to wear are the type used at masquerade balls. It is best not to wear a hockey mask to impersonate Jason. Be creative with your mask. You can even make your own, if you are into crafts.
  3. Wear an ample amount of beads. Beads are very common in the Mardi Gras celebration. There are different shapes, sizes and colors. Try to have a variety of beads. These can be found at almost any store. These beads will serve as gifts for certain acts. When celebrating at Mardi Gras, you will not only give out beads, but receive them. If you are not to fond of earning beads from others, you can simply keep your own.
  4. Dress comfortably. While choosing something to wear at Mardi Gras, keep in mind that this is a very active festival. You will be outside for the majority of the time participating in parades and activities. You don't want to be caught in uncomfortable shoes or garments. Mardi Gras is not the time to be stiff. Put on your party shoes and have fun!
