Figuring out to wear with short sleeve plaid shorts is easy if you follow a few simple rules. In 2010, short sleeve plaid shorts are really growing in popularity. Any and everyone either owns or will buy a short sleeve plaid short at some point. Matching up plaid with other things can be relatively easy as long as you don't overdo it on the plaid. Always remember, that more than one piece of plaid clothing at the same time is just asking for trouble unless the plaid patterns match almost exactly. In the case of wearing a short sleeve plaid shirt, because of where it's located on your body, you don't need any other article of plaid clothing. In short, if you're wearing a short sleeve plaid shirt, make that the only plaid you're wearing at the time. Here are some tips to creating a cool outfit with your short sleeve plaid short as the centerpiece.

  1. Pants and shorts. Because your short sleeve plaid shirt is your centerpiece, you don't need to wear anything that'll compete for attention with the shirt. In the case of pants, just make sure you're wearing a nice pair of jeans or dress pants. Simple as that. You can't go wrong if you follow this particular rule of thumb. With shorts, you have a few more options depending on the color of the shirt. You can wear a neutral color pair of shorts. Or, you can choose a pair of shorts that matches the darkest color of the plaid in your shirt. Stay away from wearing shorts that match the lighter colors in your plaid shirt. It just doesn't look right. Also, stay away from stupid patterns like polka dots. Remember, your shirt is the centerpiece. All things worn should complement the shirt.
  2. Hats. Wear solid colors. Period. You don't want to look like a circus clown. The fashion of the hat is pretty open depending on the rest of the outfit. But, for your own good, stay away from anything that pulls attention away from the shirt. You don't want to look like a fashion maze do you?
  3. Shoes. These are easy enough to match up with a short sleeve plaid shirt. There's no need to discuss shoe choices. But, remember this one thing. Wearing shoes with plaid patterns on them is stupid, regardless of the rest of the outfit.
  4. Everything else. Watches, jewelry, and anything else should compliment the outfit. Stay away from gaudy stuff. Simple is better here.
