A wakeboarding rope is an essential part of wakeboarding, but before going out and buying one, make sure you learn what you should know about wakeboard ropes. It is important to realize that wakeboard ropes are different from waterskiing ropes. Even if the boat you are going to use may have a water ski rope on board, you should think again before using it for wakeboarding.

  1. Rope Stretch. Good wakeboard ropes do not have a lot of stretch. A rope that is stiff will give you more control. A rope that has a lot of stretch has the problem of recoiling when you are in the air. This will keep you from getting all the height you are capable of.
  2. Rope Length. Wakeboard ropes vary in size, but the typical length is between 45 and feet long. A more experienced wakeboarder may want a longer rope so that they have more rope to work with. This will allow them more height in their jumps. A newer rider may want to start with a shorter rope so they are where the wake is narrower. This will help them to clear the wake when they jump.
  3. Handles on wakeboard ropes. The handles on wakeboard ropes have come a long way. They are now made with more comfortable ergonomically correct handles. The grips are also more comfortable. The handles on wakeboard ropes are wider than on water ski ropes. They are usually between 13-15 inches wide. This makes is easier to pass the handle from one hand to the other behind your back when you are turning.
