It can be difficult to decide where to go skiing in California. California offers some of the best skiing in the world. California has one of the longest ski seasons in the United States, with resorts often opening in October and continuing operations through the beginning of July. Ski conditions in California are often ideal, and there are many world-class ski resorts to choose from.

  1. Mammoth is located in Central California and features one of  the largest ski area in California, with over 3,500 acres of skiable terrain. The resort averages over 400 inches of snow annually, and Mammoth's ski season often extends for more than six months. Mammoth also offers state-of-the-art lifts and gondolas and a variety of ski terrains for all skill levels. The resort also has over 150 trails.
  2. Heavenly is located in Lake Tahoe, on the California-Nevada state line. The resort offers over 4,800 skiable acres, making Heavenly the largest mountain in California. Heavenly's summit is over 10,000 feet high. The average annual snowfall is 360 inches, and Heavenly also offers extensive snowmaking facilities covering over seventy percent of the mountain.
  3. Bear Mountain is located about one hour outside of Los Angeles, making this resort a Southern California favorite. The resort features twelve lifts, and four mountain peaks all offering elevations over 8,000 feet. Bear Mountain also has a good mix of terrain, including approximately thirty percent designated for the advanced skier. The resort is the largest in the Southern California area and receives over 100 inches of annual snowfall.
