Where To Shoot A Deer

Looking for information on where to shoot a deer? Generally speaking, when you go deer hunting, you are looking to shoot a whitetail deer. Whitetail deer are known for being extremely tough animals, so unless you land a fatal shot, you can plan on that deer running away. When you are looking to shoot a whitetail deer, you want to aim for the lungs. While a shot to the brain would be an instant kill, that is an extremely difficult shot to land and your chances of finding that deer after it runs away are slim to none.

When you are hunting for whitetail deer, you want to use a single bullet to kill that animal. In most cases, a bullet that goes through the lungs of a whitetail deer will result in a single shot kill. Deer are known for having amazing hearing, so you will likely be hunting from a location that is somewhat far away. The best way to shoot a deer is to shoot a large target area, which the lungs are. For any animal, the lungs are considered to be a vital organ. While the deer may not drop instantly, it will remain close enough that you can track it without difficult.

Of course, there are other areas that you can shoot a deer when you are hunting. If you hit the heart of a deer, that animal is going to die, generally on the spot. The problem with aiming for the heart is that it is a rather small target area, and it is actually very low in the deer's chest. Shoulder shots are best saved for when you are trying to shoot a larger game animal. When you hit the shoulder, it is possible that you will also damage the lungs or heart, but you will almost always need to land another shot to kill the animal. You want the deer to die almost instantly, instead of experiencing a slow and painful death, so aiming for the brain isn't the best idea. If you miss, chances are you will break the deer's jaw or hit it in the eye instead.
