Looking for information on who is Bill Gates? Bill Gates is the Chairman of Microsoft. Bill Gates was born in 1955 in Seattle, Washington and he got his education at Lakeside School, which is where he met Paul Allen. Paul Allen was a couple of years older than Bill Gates, but the two became best friends and spent a lot of their time in the computer lab at Lakeside together. When Bill Gates was fifteen and Paul Allen was seventeen, they developed a computer program that made them a profit of $20,000.
After graduating from high school, Paul Allen moved onto Washington State University and Bill Gates went to Harvard University, where he would later drop out. During this time, Allen and Gates kept in touch and Allen eventually moved to the Boston area and got a job with Honeywell. Bill Gates got a job with Honeywell a year after graduating from high school, which is where Paul Allen showed Bill Gates an article about a new mini-computer that was being developed. Gates and Allen worked together to create a code that could run on the computer, which was being developed by MITS. Both Allen and Gates ended up getting jobs with MITS, which is where, in 1975, they founded Microsoft together.
Of course, when people think of Microsoft today, they think of a multi-billion dollar corporation that is a household name. However, Microsoft didn't get off to the best start because people were sharing the software they developed with others for free. That soon changed when Bill Gates stated that if people continued to distribute software free of charge, it would prevent others from developing good software. Microsoft made $2.5 million in 1978, which is when Bill Gates made himself the head of the company and moved Microsoft to Washington.
Paul Allen resigned from Microsoft in 1983, which left Bill Gates completely in charged of the company. Bill Gates now has a net worth of $56 billion and Microsoft brings in a profit of almost $20 billion every year. Bill Gates has been married to his wife, Melinda, since 1994, and they have three children together. Thanks to his tremendous amount of wealth, Bill Gates is able to invest quite a bit of money into the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which funds initiatives that are targeted towards helping global learning and health.
