When planning a traditional wedding, you may want to know who pays for what in a wedding. In this day and age, traditional weddings are far from normal. However, some families still plan for and follow the traditional rules for who pays for what in a wedding. From the flowers to the the honeymoon, knowing who pays for what in a wedding can make planning easier from the beginning to the end.

In a traditional wedding, the bride's family bears the majority of the costs of a wedding. The bride's family pays for the photographer, transportation, invitations, announcements, favors and the bride's wedding dress and accessories. The also cover the reception costs that include food, music, rental fees and entertainment. Additional ceremony fees covered by the brides family are any rentals and decorations.

The groom's family has few costs during a traditional wedding. The groom's family pays for the rehearsal dinner costs that includes invitations, food and entertainment. Other than a wedding gift and their own clothing or travel expenses, the grooms family gets off pretty easy.

The bride pays for a wedding gift for the groom, the grooms wedding ring, gifts for her wedding party, and her hair and make-up. The groom pays the officiant, the marriage license, boutonnieres, corsages for the mothers and grandmothers, the bride's wedding gift, the honeymoon, gifts for his attendants and the brides flowers.

Modern day weddings the costs are split more evenly and people tell the bride and groom what they can afford to give. Some weddings are split in half between the bride and groom's families. Other times, they are split into three when the bride and groom are contributing to the wedding themselves.
