If you are shopping for harwood flooring, you should learn about wood flooring types. In modern society, there is a wide variety of wood flooring. Getting the best wood flooring for your home depends on how much you want to spend and the type of subfloor that the wood flooring will cover. Here are some commonly used wood flooring types:

  1. Solid Wood Flooring. Solid wood flooring is constructed from milled wood. Solid wood flooring is generally less expensive than engineered wood flooring. Solid wood flooring tends to be durable, but it is also extremely difficult to remove. If you are considering solid wood flooring for your home, make sure that you are completely satisfied that it is the color you want and that it matches your furniture before you install it.
  2. Engineered Wood Flooring. Engineered wood flooring is made from veneer wood. The wood is glued together and layered with birch wood on the top layer and oak wood on the bottom. Engineered wood flooring is ideal for homes that are prone to environmental damage. For example, if you live in an extremely cold or an extremely warm climate, engineered wood flooring would be the ideal flooring for you because it is durable and will resist mold and increase the stability of your floor.
  3. Unfinished Wood Flooring. You might be wondering why someone would want to by a floor that needs to be finished. Unfinished wood flooring is actually ideal if you are making your own home improvements or if you want to buff the floor to your own personal preferences. Unfinished wood flooring is also less expensive, so if you are a skilled builder, this might be a way to save money on your new wood flooring. Additionally, if you are building the house for someone else, they might not know what color of finish they want.
  4. Prefinished Wood Flooring. Prefinished wood flooring is the most common type of wood flooring. Prefinished wood flooring is already polished and filed. All you have to do is install the wood flooring in your home. The advantage of prefinished wood flooring is, obviously, that everything is already done for you. The drawback is that you can't change it.
