Zombie Shooting Games

With the recent rise in popularity of zombies and the addictiveness and demand for shooting games, it is almost a no-brainer (no pun intended) that zombie shooting games have been popping up everywhere you turn. Games like “Call of Duty: Black Ops”, which offers a zombie map, and “Dead Island”, which takes place on an island resort overrun by zombies, can put a dent in your wallet. The list includes free zombie shooting games you can find online. They may not have the bells and whistles offered by consoles like PS3 or Xbox 360, but the game play and satisfaction of blowing away the undead is still highly enjoyable.

  1. “Endless Zombie Rampage 2” - Available for free online, “Endless Zombie Rampage 2” is exactly what the title says, an endless stream of zombies for you to blow away. You start out in a rundown parking lot. You are introduced to a survivor who has built a “fort” of sorts. He gives you a hand gun and a quick rundown on how to survive in the game. The view of the game play is from above, and you control your survivor using standard keyboard keys for movement, “w”, “a”, “s”, and “d.” The “r” key reloads your weapon. Use the mouse to aim and fire at the zombies. The goal is to kill as many zombies as possible and survive as many nights as possible to move up in experience points. Though the graphics are basic, the game design is fun and is perfect for hours of mindless zombie shooting.

  2. “Zombie Shootout” - This zombie game follows the same style as “Endless Zombie Rampage 2”, in that the view and game play is the same. However, the difference in “Zombie Shootout” is that you are a tactical assault soldier holed up in a house, and you must make your way from room to room, shooting zombies that break in through windows. Once the house is cleared, you must repair the window fortifications before the next wave of undead arrives. Each wave is more intense, as the zombies come in from different angles, and sometimes sooner than it takes to repair the boarded up windows. Again, for a free game, the graphics are a little cartoon-like, but the game play more than makes up for it.

  3. “Dead Frontier” - “Dead Frontier” offers the same zombie shooting enjoyment as “Endless Zombie Rampage 2”, but with better graphics. Set in France in the year 2016, you play the only soldier left after an ambush of the undead. Hiding in a dark cottage with a flashlight as your only source of light, you must defend against wave after wave of rotting zombies. You can gain more ammo and health packs with the more zombies you kill. “Dead Frontier” amps up the creepiness factor by limiting the range of your flashlight in a room that is almost completely dark.

  4. “Last Stand 2” - This zombie shooting game opens with a cinematic display of a chopper going down on an island. You are then shown a journal entry in which your character has 40 days to reach transportation to the mainland before it is sealed off for good. The game stays away from a bird’s eye view, instead giving you a side view of the action. The controls are the standard keyboard and mouse combination. However, because the action is not seen from above, you are able to aim at zombie heads to kill them faster. Defend against waves of undead while gathering weapons and barricading windows and doors.

  5. “Boxhead: Zombie Wars” - Another bird’s eye view zombie game, “Boxhead: Zombie Wars” places you in a field, surrounded by woods. You can either choose a level with reinforcements and barricades or choose to be out in the open. Your character and the zombies bear a striking resemblance to LEGO characters. It is another of the mindless shooters, like “Endless Zombie Rampage 2”, except you use arrow keys to move and the space bar to shoot. The zombies in this game are fast moving, so be prepared to dart around while shooting and reloading.
