Sony’s sleek new line of portable speaker systems look like they could keep you warm on a chilly winter morning. But, you know, they won’t. Not even close. The cylindicrial, mug-shaped design of these portable speaker systems is designed not to hold delicious beverages but to project 16 watts of stereo sound outward in a 360 degree sphere of music.
It seems a little bit redundant for most vehicles. If your car isn’t new enough to have an auxiliary audio jack, then you could always us a cassette tape or FM transmitter dongle to effect actual stereo sound. However, it probably wouldn’t look as cool. The real utility of this, we think, is in vehicles that don’t typically have speakers at all. This should be standard equipment on golf cars, and bicycles built for two (or more…or one). They’re not cheap, though, at $240.
