Is it the Loch Ness Monster’s boyfriend? Or something more… prehistoric? A 35-year-old man from Mecklenburg County, North Carolina has reportedly spotted a “dinosaur-like,” creature in a man-made lake in his home state.

The guy, who is remaining anonymous, wrote in to about this finding. That site is popular for reporting on strange occurrences…

“I was on a boat with my friends,” the man told the website. “We were near the lakes main channel when we saw something splashing around in the water.”

He noted it was around 10 feet long and looked very similar to the mythical Loch Ness monster. No photos were taken of the creature as it was allegedly only visible for approximately one minute until it went below the surface, but his friends that were with him saw the creature, too.

Before you write this dude off as a nut, know that Lake Norman is no stranger to unexplained sightings and situations. Several people say they have seen a creature that lives in the water. There is actually a website created for the entire phenomenon called It allows people to post about the creepy s**t they have seen at the lake.

Several people have posted on in recent years, with similar descriptions of their findings. One man said he was knocked off his boat after a huge force hit it, and spotted a 15-foot “Nessie-like sea monster” swimming away. Another witness said he and his girlfriend saw a creature, “at least 14-ft long” from their Jet Ski in 2014.

This particular lake is the largest man-made body of fresh water in the state of North Carolina. It was created between 1959 and 1964 as part of the construction of the Cowans Ford Dam.

Oh, and of course this critter has been given a name. It’s Normie, not to be confused with, you know, Nessie.
