Will the real Slim Shady please stand up? No, we aren’t talking to you, Jim Carrey. Although, we can see why the comedian may think we are. Grammy award-winning rapper Eminem named him as a major influence behind what is probably his best album, The Eminem Show.

In an Instagram post promoting the album’s 15th anniversary edition, the rap god wrote that Carrey “basically wrote” The Eminem Show and cited the actor’s comedy-drama The Truman Show as a source of inspiration.

“The concept for The Eminem Show was inspired by The Truman Show because my life felt like it was becoming a circus at that time and I felt like I was always being watched,” a handwritten note on Em’s Instagram page reads. “Basically, Jim Carrey wrote my album.”

In case you’ve never seen the film, it tells the story of a man whose entire life is being broadcast as a reality television show, albeit without his knowledge. Now, not to harp, Em, but we’re pretty sure Carrey didn’t write the movie. (Checks imdb.) Nope, that would be Andrew Niccol. Sigh.
