Do not pass go and do not collect $200. That’s pretty much what police in Dakota County, Minnesota said to a man who was wanted on an outstanding warrant and tried to avoid arrest by busting out a “Get Out of Jail Free” Monopoly game card.

According to the county’s Sheriff’s office, officers pulled over a car registered to someone wanted on a warrant and then realized the passenger wasn’t buckled up. Local news station KARE says that officers then ran the passenger’s name, and saw that he was wanted on a controlled substance warrant. When the deputies searched the guy, they found quite the gem up his sleeve, and no, we aren’t talking about drugs or paraphernalia. That’s where they found the Monopoly card!

The “Get Out of Jail Free” Monopoly card states: “This card may be kept until needed or sold. When not having this card, you must wait three turns (unless doubles are rolled on any of those turns) then, after the third roll, you get out of jail AND must pay a fine of $50.” The suspect told the officers that he kept the game card on him “just in case.”

Is this real life?

The police may have been amused, but they still took the guy’s ass to jail. His bail was set at $5,000. And that’s in real money, not game dollars.

The department had to think this incident was funny AF, because they made sure to share it on their Facebook page. They said that they give him an “A” for effort.

Oh, and they didn’t take the man’s card from him, either. So better luck next time, buddy!
