Andy Comer has always been on the cutting edge of style. And the Louisville, Kentucky native keeps that trend going as the newly minted Men’s Shop Creative Director at Nordstrom. We caught up with the GQ alum—and serious solo musician—to find out how well men are dressing these days. Relax, the future looks bright.

MADE MAN: What trends are you seeing for Spring/Summer?
ANDY COMER:
Many! We’re excited about the return of the denim jacket, rumpled cotton and linen suits, and adventurous jolts of color in everything from sportcoats to desert boots.

MM: How are men making style choices these days?
AC:
All guys are different—they’re interested in what’s going to work best for them as individuals. We know what we want, and are confident in making choices for ourselves—mixing and matching, being a little eclectic, creating our own looks.

MM: If you had to associate a word, or a few words, with the current state of men’s style in America, what would you say?
AC:
Informed. Unapologetic. And just…better.

MM: What are you most excited about with men’s style going forward?
AC:
Great fit and fabrication are becoming more accessible every day. And that’s going to push us to keep elevating our style game as men.

MM: What’s your personal style like, and what does it say about you?
AC:
I’ve got a passion for fit, and for great-fitting menswear classics. I wear a jacket and tie almost every day.

MM: Last but not least, what three items should every man have in his wardrobe?
AC:
Tough to narrow it down to just three. So we’ll go with maximum versatility. A white oxford cloth shirt with a button-down collar. A go-to pair of dark jeans. And a mid-gray or charcoal suit that fits like it was made for you.
