What’s it take to be a manly man? Rippling muscles, fierce tattoos, intense facial hair?? Perhaps bold adventures and courageous deeds are required? Or does everything you need lie within? These are the sorts of questions that creep into our brains at night. And so as the manliest month, Movember, begins, we decided to send one man on a journey to find out. Over the next six weeks, travel writer Raymond Walsh (a.k.a. Man on the Lam) will hit the road in search of the sorts of things that put hair on a man’s chest. We’re talking activities involving guns, jets, steaks, fast cars, chainsaws and more. He’ll be blogging about his adventures right here very soon, but first, a few questions…
How are you involved in Movember?
I’ll be traveling along with the “Made Man Movember Mo’asis” mobile tour this year, which is a customized airstream barbershop that will travel along the west coast, kicking off in Las Vegas on October 26th. I’ll be blogging all the fun, crazy and inspiring activities throughout the month on mademan.com/movember.
Why are you involved?
My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer about nine years ago, so Movember is a cause that is close to my heart. He went through radiation therapy, which saved his life, but had he gone to the doctor earlier, we would have been spared a lot of pain and grief.
Why is Made Man partners with Movember?
Made Man cares about men’s health and we love what Movember is doing to bring awareness to it. It is a fun, engaging and irreverent way to get people talking about serious issues like prostate and testicular cancer, and even broader men’s health issues.
What are you most looking forward to doing on the tour?
There are a lot of great “manly” activities that I’ll get to experience, but if I had to choose one, I’d have to go with Fighter Pilot for a Day. That’s not something you get to do every day. And what guy hasn’t watched Top Gun? It’s a classic.
