To close out this year’s E3 gaming expo, we’re looking at the hottest ladies from Atari to XBox that’ve been rendered on the big screen. Let’s get one thing out in the open right now, before we even think about putting in the Konami code and pressing start on this article: video game movies suck. They have always sucked, and they will continue to suck. Films based on popular game franchises are cinematic equivalent of your drunken ex-girlfriend calling you for a hook-up: you know, with absolute certainty, that you will regret the decision to get in bed with your Ex (pay $15 to see an overdirected, soulless adaptation) because of the promise of rekindling the spark you felt during your initial relationship (playing a badass, engaging video game). The math is always in favor of the studios: if you add in the amount of uninitiated viewers who are just bored and willing to give a sci-fi/action movie a chance to the gamers who come to hate on it, a video game movie usually still pulls a profit. They’re free to continue bombing royally because of lowered expectations.

Except for the ones that Chickipedia endorses. Those ones are always awesome!

All that being said, there is literally one reason and one reason alone to sit through a video game movie: seeing the hot video girls of your dreams come to life. Here are some of the most memorable ones, in no particular order of hotness and/or cinematic crapitude.

And, just as every video game movie sucks, every sucky video game movie list must begin with the one hottest babe, the Alpha Video Game Vixen:

Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft

No matter how many times you might tell yourself that there is no "Nude Code" for the original Tomb Raider–which is, incidentally, probably one of the greatest pranks in video game history–seeing Jolie as Croft always makes you hope for one once again. Also, considering that it is still a video game flick, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider was pretty far above your standard fare. Surprisingly, it holds a record for the highest grossing action film with a woman in the lead role. Of course, having Jolie’s big assets taking up space on your posters certainly help sell tickets. I mean, those are 9mm Heckler and Koch USP MATCH’s…very intimidating. What did you think I was talking about?

Kristanna Lokken as Rayne

The luscious Lokken first stole every male moviegoer’s heart (by forcibly removing it from their chest with a plasma cannon) as the not-so-vaguely-named Terminatrix in the third Terminator movie. She followed up that butt-kicking role with her portrayal as Rayne, the titular (no pun intended…alright maybe a little) vampire from the Bloodrayne video game series. Hypothetical question: is she more deadly as a super sexy, leather-clad cyborg or as a super sexy, leather-clad vampire? Are sexiness and deadliness factors directly correlated? Are you listening, social scientists? Get on it!

Laurie Holden as Cybill Bennett

Holden is a veteran actress who’s been acquainted with the scif-fi, weird genre since her long-running stint as Marita Covarrubias on The X-Files (you may now say "Ohhh yeah, I remember her now!"). Her main acting focus has been in television, though she makes it onto this list for her performance in the creepy Silent Hill movie alongside the equally blonde and beautiful…

Radha Mitchell as Rose Da Silva

Radha was almost perfectly cast as Rose, and she and Ms. Holden did a pretty fantastic job of reacting to the monsters even though the film itself dragged on for just a little too long. Silent Hill proves the crappy-video-game-movie-transfer thesis all too well: everyone remembers what a crazy, tormented, and exciting game Silent Hill was to play. It could only be expected that merely watching pretty much the same story unfold wouldn’t be quite as captivating. And yet, I still paid the money to go see the gorgeous blonde ladies in it battling monsters. As Sarah Michelle Gellar proved time and again, people will pay money to see blonde chicks fight any kind of supernatural being.

Samantha Mathis as Princess Daisy (AKA Princess Peach)

Look deeply into your subconscious, in that box of "Forcibly Repressed Movie Memories," and right there between the entirety of Broken Lizard’s Club Dread and David Bowie’s musical numbers from Labyrinth you will find whatever memory you may have of the Super Mario Bros. movie–if you’re an 80s baby like me, that is. If you were born in the 90s, you probably have no idea what I’m talking about. Well, Ms. Mathis starred as the world-famous princess in the adaptation, who was called Princess Daisy for some reason. She has continued to work in tons of films with big actors, most notably The American President, Broken Arrow (a personal favorite), American Psycho, and The Punisher. Unfortunately, her hotness could not have saved what is no considered the worst of all video game movies…and how did the producers NOT name her Princess Peach?! Surely they could’ve gotten the copyright, it’s just…ahh forget it.

Bridgette Wilson as Sonya Blade

When it comes to some of the very first sexy video game characters, the deadly Sonya Blade has to come to mind with her famous, fiery kiss of a fatality from the original Mortal Kombat. To give Ms. Blade the justice she deserves on the big screen, they needed a tough yet sexy actress with legs capable of flipping a grown man in a scissor position (I get all hot just typing that). Only one actress would do in the early 90s: Bridgette Wilson. She’s a former Miss Teen USA winner, and she fulfilled every pubescent boy’s dreams with her "kissing telegram" gig in The Last Action Hero as Ah-Nuld’s daughter. In addition to her film career, she’s a very motivated charity worker and spokeswoman for MADD, American Oceans Campaign, and several AIDS organizations. Those commitments make her even hotter than Sonya herself.

Milla Jovovich as Alice

We have to mention Ms. Jovovich in this esteemed list, as she was the star of one of the very few video game franchises that actually produced sequels: the Resident Evil franchise. Her character, Alice, even undergoes a transformation of character throughout the films, which no other video game character has been able to pull off. She went from frightened ingenue to cold-blooded zombie axe-murderer; but hey, that’s what living through an apocalypse can do to a person.

There are plenty of other hot video game movie chicks out there, so here are at least a few others, then it’s Game Over.

Mila Kunis

Olga Kurylenko

Bonus! Olga was the only babe to star in two consecutive video game movies for two different franchises: Hitman in ’07 and Max Payne in ’08.
