Catapulted to fame by recent films “Avatar” and “Clash of the Titans,” 33-year old Sam Worthington has made a name for himself in Hollywood and left an indelible mark on the fashion scene with his red carpet style. Named “Man of the Year” by GQ Australia in 2009, this Aussie has now taken the States by storm. Shown above at the “Clash of the Titans” premiere in London, clad in a modern, gray suit, he projects an alluring air of confidence and class.
This guy makes women around the globe go gaga, and I am not referring to the pop singer. His heroic onscreen roles may play up this mass appeal, but through key wardrobe choices, he keeps the ladies wanting more. Fortunately, his style is easy to replicate, so you too can look similarly dashing.
Get the look
At the premiere, he melded formal and casual elements of style in a sexy way. I concede that simply donning a suit instantly enhances a man’s look, but Worthington freshened up the look by leaving open a few buttons of his shirt and opting to forego a standard black suit for a light gray.
Now, you don’t have to break the bank to emulate Worthington’s style. Check out this suit by Hugo, which retails for $795 here.Pair it with a crisp, white button up shirt like this for a polished combo that without a doubt will impress those around you and attract the attention of any nearby ladies.
Make an investment
Many men only own one or two suits, and although a gray suit is adaptable to numerous occasions, if you’re looking to make a more versatile investment, it would be best to purchase one in black. At the Oscars, Worthington looked immaculate, sporting a black Brioni suit and a narrow black tie. See here. His ensemble stood out from a sea of classic, bow-tie tuxedos.
It’s double agent approved
A name synonymous with Brioni is Bond, as in James Bond. Pierce Brosnan wore the Italian label in “GoldenEye,” and Daniel Craig followed suit in “Casino Royale.” If the Brioni suit is good enough for 007, you can count on it to give you that same je ne sais quoi that allowed him to tackle international espionage with unflinching panache. Note: when wearing a suit, regardless of brand, please resist the urge to order a martini shaken not stirred.
Brioni’s near infinite fabric selection, made to order specifications and expert tailoring come with a hefty price tag. Suits range from $4,000 to $15,000. Check out their website. If your jaw just hit the floor, worry not, for you can still attain high fashion looks without shelling out major duckets. Let’s face it, Brioni suits are a luxury few can afford, but there are abundant alternatives for the Made Man on a budget.
Check out this suit by Dolce and Gabbana here. Leave it to the Italians to craft impeccable menswear. This one retails for $1595, so it isn’t cheap, but it’s worth the expense if you need a suit you can depend upon to help you look your best at any formal affair. Be sure to wear it with a white dress shirt and a nifty black tie. This look is modern and sophisticated.
Leave them guessing
Worthington has, as of late, set himself apart by his choice of shoes. At the Oscars, he claimed to be wearing Payless kicks with his pricey, designer suit. Most observers would not have noticed, and while I support the purchase of a great fashion steal, I would not encourage you to make a public announcement of your thrifty scores. It is okay to leave people guessing.
Worthington often dons Blunderstone shoes, which are work boots produced in Australia. He wears them with casual attire and to formal events. He deserves props for showing original flair, but I do not endorse wearing these boots with a suit or anywhere beyond a construction site. I would recommend something akin to these shoes by Kenneth Cole. A quality pair of dress shoes is well worth the investment, for accessories can make or break an outfit.
Look for a deal
If you are really scrimping on the scrilla but want to get either of these looks, be sure to check out Men’s Warehouse or Macy’s. At the end of the day, a tailored suit looks good on a man, regardless of the brand. Pay attention the quality of fabric, choose a color that will be versatile, and you will have an outfit that will last years and outlive fleeting trends. An easy update to a suit involves simply changing the shirt, tie, and shoes you wear with it.
