A few days ago everyone’s favorite Sports Business reporter, Darren Rovell of CNBC, enlisted the help of the blog reading public to assist in deciding the most marketable sports names of all time.
The debate was initially sparked over Usain ‘Lightning’ Bolt’s incredibly awesome and real name. In addition to now being ubiquitously referred to as the fastest man on the planet, he has a clever/gimmicky name that sponsors and endorsement ad creators will love.
Although there was no clear ‘winner‘, ‘recognition‘ or ‘prize for being the best‘, I am going to go out on a limb and claim the top spot in the creation of this ‘list’ for myself. As you will see, I clearly took the lead by an Usain Bolt-size margin by coming up with not just one, but TWO great ‘aptronyms‘ that made the list.
Check out my accomplishments in all their glory in the #6 and #7 spots on the list (arranged in no particular order):
And just in case you think I am pathetic enough to have photoshopped this in some way, and I admire your undaunted skepticism for thinking that, please also visit the official list page over at the SportsBiz blog to read all the other submissions that made the cut.
Maybe I should change my name to something really marketable in order to capitalize on my newfound fame? Something like John ‘Word’ Smith perhaps?
Also if you can think of any other great sports names that should be on the list, let us know in the comments section. In case you were wondering, here’s sexy Anna Smashnova and the somewhat less hot Brian Cashman.
