Boyhood by Richard Linklater

Richard Linklater’s revolutionary film Boyhood was a smash at the Sundance Film Festival and made our list of 14 Movies You Must See in 2014, and today’s release of the trailer qualifies as an event. The film was shot over 12 years beginning in 2002, as Linklater (Dazed and Confused, Slacker, Before Sunrise) followed a Texas boy from ages 6 to 18. His parents are played by Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette, and the trailer feels tender and melancholic with the occasional punch in the gut, like a late-night nostalgia session. It’s out July 11.
